White is a Belgian style Witbier, with 35% wheat malt & special yeast creating the characteristic spicy, clove & banana aroma, and fine white foam. Additions of lemon & orange peel with Lemondrop hops gives a distinctive citrus character. Serve well chilled in a wide glass to enjoy its refreshing & aromatic qualities. Any slight haze is natural, and typical of this style of wheat beer.

Tap at the brewery taproom. Poured a slightly hazy golden yellow colour with a lasting frothy white head and lots of bubbles. The aroma is banana, light citrus. The flavour is light sweet, with a light, crisp, slightly watery, clove, citrus palate. Medium to light bodied with lively carbonation. Light and refreshing.

Rating from bottle collection/historic scores. Bottle purchased from Waitrose when in the area some time back. Nice citrus aroma but that aside wasn’t so keen.

The wife is out with friends, so I’m having a random, weird beer tasting evening: first up an English brewed Witbier! This brown 330ml bottle (5%ABV) was best before 10 Mar 2011, drank and reviewed 28 Jan 2011. Poured into my Westmalle chalice. Good looks, pale orange, cloudy and headless after ten seconds, just like a regular Witbier. Strong clove aroma, with a bag of mixed spices thrown in too, impressive smell. I’m not a huge fan of this style, but this tastes and feels as good as the much loved Hoegaaarden in my eyes. It has that coriander/orangey edge to it as well, different and pleasing. A good start to my evening, hope the Armenian Lager is as good!

Bottle from Waitrose in Reading, well in whatever suburb my brother lives in, which I can’t remember, arh yes T something. Tilehurst!! Yes, that’s it. cloudy paleish gold with some orange hints to the colour. Wit spice and tangerine aromas are pleasant. Ok in mouth without being special, but the flavours in the finish resemble those on the aroma and it does finish well. One of the better UK wit beers.
