Beer #10 of 17 for each day of the 2018 Winter Olympics - One for A Country Participating in the Games: #10 - Hungary Deep dark brown coloured body with a beautiful, perfectly topped four to five centimetre tall rich brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, lightly smoked peat, some briney and salt essences, a touch of earth and toffee and a little bit of vanilla pods and lactose or milk sugars are noticeable as well. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt up front with some light smoked notes, a touch of the caramel and toffee sweetness and a large bit of earthy grain and light peat along with a bit of a burnt oatmeal flavour towards the end. Aftertaste is a touch thin, but that could be due to the age, but some milk sugars, a touch of the caramelised sugars and mostly the earthy, roasted malt notes that are evident at the tail end. Overall, a nice beer with some good flavours, a solid profile, but lacking a touch in complexity and especially at the palate, but nice to sample, especially a real craft beer from Hungary, but back home. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Beer Odalom in Budapest, Hungary on 24-March-2016 for HUF690 sampled at home in Washington on 18-February-2018.

0.33l bottle. Black body, thin light brown head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, caramel and floral hops. Taste of coffee, caramel, leather, roasted malts and floral hops. I don’t recognise the oysters in the taste, but I don’t mind. I think this is a great stout.
