Canned. Brown black pour. Chocolate, coffee, whiskey oak notes. Ok pretty low impact

Unexpectedly tame for an BA Avery stout, with a thin, light body and not much influence from the barrel. Moderate notes of dark chocolate, oak, and a little berry, and the whiskey makes a brief appearance in the finish, but overall a rather mild take on a style that demands some oomph to stand out.

12 ounce can from Total Wine Madison, 4/11/22. Dark brown, large foamy brown head, good retention. Aroma of cocoa, whiskey, raisin, cherry, vanilla. Taste is vanilla, whiskey, chocolate, raisin. A bit thin. Tasty. Nice beer.

Can/Fest. A- Chocolate. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Chocolate brownie, vanilla, roasty. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly sharp finish. O- This seemed pretty plain jane and the whiskey didn't really show through until the very end but it was good. Lots of chocolate.

Sample at Beasts & Brews. Pours black, with a big, rocky, beige head. The aroma is vanilla, espresso, oak sawdust, leaves, and caramel. Sweet and lightly bitter. Fairly heavy, with a thick and chewy palate. Nothing outstanding, but it's pretty fair, especially for the price point.

Can - I can kind of appreciate what they were going for here - a lighter, everyday-drinking whiskey stout - I think they made a mistake going the low-end abv imperial stout route, though, as now everyone will compare it to a 12% viscous barrel bomb of a stout and find it lacking - think of it as a medium- bodied sweet stout instead and the perspective shifts a bit - moderate whiskey and vanilla - strong drying roastiness through the middle - a bit of espresso and cream - brighter berry notes through the middle - finishing with whiskey and vanilla - it’s fairly enjoyable if you don’t think of it as an imperial stout.

Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is roasty malt and oak barrel with some vanilla. Flavor is an ok roast with the barrel kind of in the back round and finishes super dry with some bitter bakers chocolate left on the tongue. The aroma held promise but the flavor was a little lackluster. Still a decent single can pick up for some after dinner sipping.

Night Warden is a new delivery to my local beer store. It is an imperial stout and barrel-aged too so I have no hesitation in buying a full six-pack of 12 oz cans. My glass of choice this warm June evening is my New Belgium snifter. I pour heavy and see a mocha brown body with a strong medium tan head. The nose, grain, chocolate and strawberry. The taste and sensation are both thinner than I expected, much thinner. Milk chocolate, pecans, malt and the barest indication of the whiskey barrel. Just okay. Underwhelming.
