We don’t brew Brown Ales often, but when we do, we love them. This one takes inspiration from a team visit to Simpsons Malt, where we tasted a variety of grains throughout the malting process. An impressive 9 different malt varieties build an incredible base of flavour, with Mosaic, Strata and HBC630 hops bringing berry and tropical fruit highlights.

very dark brown with a tan head. Medium to full body. Roasted malt, spice, licorice, and a high degree of hop notes. I find the hops, malt and spice don’t play well together. Finish is a touch sweet. Doesn’t work for me.

440ml can from the brewery. Poured almost black in colour with a short-lived, frothy light tan head. The aroma is roasted malts, nutty. The flavour is moderate sweet and liquorice bitter, with a smooth, somewhat light, earthy, nutty, herbal, floral liquorice bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

Nice stuff. Quite hoppy, touch of creaminess, but of spice. It’s nice!

Can at home picked up from the siren advent calendar, day 6. An opaque dark brown black coloured pour with a lasting whipped tan head. Aroma is nice piney hop, tobacco, pine sap, singled pine, bark. Palate is semi sweet, resin, fine carbonation, sticky. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, toasted brown malts, tobacco , pine, sap, Really punchy for 5.4%. Nice.

Opaque brown with a thin tan head. Loads of malt, quite toasty. Some toffee, loads of malt, a good hoppy quality. Some spice, some apple, caramel. Big body, malty, fruity hops and very smooth.

440ml can. Pours a very dark brown, tan head. Aroma of roast malts, dark chocolate, some hoppiness. Taste is very chocolatey and roasty, but with some relatively prominent hopping for the style, berries and tropical fruits hanging in the background, finish is bitter. Medium bodied and very smooth. That's an excellent brown ale (something rarely heard).
