Dark brown color. Strong aroma of marzipan, maybe Maraschino, some bread. The body is not too thick, also because the alcohol is very strong; dark chocolate flavor and almond, with some cherry tartness.

500ml bottle (thx, Brian!) shared at Alex's. Pours a dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is lots of marzipan, artificial cherries (like in chewing gums). Similar taste. Hmmm. Oookey beer.

500mL bottle, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma is decadent, with heaps of marzipan / almond extract upfront, followed by some light bourbon. Flavour is more multi-dimensional, with loads of marzipan upfront, followed by blueberries, bourbon and a touch of vanilla. At first, you think it's going to be pure almond, but the flavour really opens up and broadens to the other elements. It's still primarily marzipan. I love it.

Dark brown. Ok, so smells rather strongly of almond extract. On the palate, dark berry, more of that almond, and a hint of chocolate and roast. Maybe some other nuts? Finishes with almond and blueberry. Ok, so this one is whacky. The body isn't as big as the 13.2% would indicate, and it's not really giving a lot of bourbon either.

Draft pour to a schooner at The Collective. Dark and dense near black pour with a thick tan foam head. Rich milk chocolate aroma. Flavor is a ton of milk chocolate, and a nutty constant. Almond, chocolate, and the slightest hint of blueberry, because I know it's there. Otherwise it's almond, and some coconut, maybe. Warm, toasty, sweet malt, almond finish. Quite the unique and enjoyable stout here.

Draft at Goose Island BCS media preview. Brewmaster Jared Jankoski told us he had wanted to try almonds for some time, balancing it with a fruit like blueberry. After experimenting with slivered almonds, they went with an extract in a beer for the first time. Everyone at my table agreed the nose was like a Chinese almond cookie, or like Voortman Almond Windmills. If any of the BCS variants gets a split reaction from the people drinking it, it might be this one, just for its strong almond component. Blueberry is a delicate flavor in beer, and its only sensed as an extra dry finish.

I sampled two 5 oz. snifter at Goose Island Clybourn on Black Friday. Huge berry aroma, mild bourbon, light almond. The flavor is almost syrupy. Light almond, good barrel, mild alcohol but in no way harsh. The fruit almost overpowered the barrel. As the stout warmed the almond comes out nicely and balances the blueberry. Will mellow nice. Glad I was able to score a few of these on my trip to Chicago. I understand everyone wants to sample them fresh but I think 10 - 12 months from now this will be really fantastic. The extract needs time to mellow.
