A historic saison style beer made with calendula and homegrown yarrow flowers yielding a hugely aromatic brew that’s dry and bitter. It’s an excellent aperitif and always ready about a month and a half after the first spring yarrow flowers.

Bottle thanks to Bruce. It pours hazy golden with a small white head. The nose is earthy, funky, sharp, lactic, some acidity, vinous, barnyard, floral and dough. The taste is crisp, sharp acidity, lactic, wood, cream cheese, barnyard, white grape and gooseberry, with a dry, wood finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Well judged. Rounded and quaffable.

Bottle shared in London for Josh’s Farewell. Big thanks to Kenny for this one. Pours cloudy gold with a big, webby white froth head. The aroma holds light doughy malts, some citrus, lemon-lime. Medium sweet flavor with biscuity pale malts, a bit of wheat, hay, flowers, orange meringue, light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish, further doughy wheat, sugary citrus fruits, mild hay and floral bitterness. Very tasty though not especially complex.

Bottle thanks to Ken. It pours cloudy dirty blonde with a thick off-white head. The nose is fresh, floral, light tartness, herbaceous, dough and hay. The taste is crisp, bready, wood, earth, hay, dull tartness, spice, bitter chard and citrus rind with a dry finish. Medium and moderate carbonation. Alright saison, but not outstanding.

Bottle at RWBG 2014, thanks! Pours a hazy light orangish gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a strong gin presence with light fruits and a touch of tartness. Flavor has a nice gin and light tart fruit combination with a bit of sweetness backing.

Bottle at our Thursday mini-tasting. Pours cloudy light amber with a medium white head, creamy with nice lacing. Aroma is floral, honey, herbal. Flavor is the same with little sweetness or bitterness, but a strong floral/herbal almost perfume sense. Finish is dry. Light body, bubbly carbonation. I enjoyed this one.
