Bottle. Orange copper color. Aroma of pine, boozy grape, caramel, cloying raisin and oak. Taste has sharp caramelised malt, boozy grape, caramel, honey, dry bitter hop and pine. It?s a bit harsh, was hoping for more flavor of soft dessert wine.

330mL bottle, pours a hazy amber orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out alcohol, wood, caramel malts and subdued resinous hops. Flavour is along the same lines, with resinous hops, wood from the barrels, and toasted caramel. Sweet, but not cloying, with the hops a little subdued due to the aging, with a nice barrel characteristic. I don't usually like these barrel aged IPAs, but this one is done really nicely. Excellent.

330ml bottle from Beermerchants. Pours dark orange with a smooth white head. Aroma of wood, oak, ripe fruits, herbal and vinous notes, berries, booze and mild hoppiness. Taste is sweet, vinous, oaky, woody, chewy caramely and ripe fruity with some herbal hops, berries and toffee. Finish is sweet, resinous, caramely and sticky with some booze, herbal notes, berries, oak and toffee. Quite complex, but also a bit boozy and stuffy. Feels more like a hoppy barrel aged barley wine than a double IPA.

Bottle shared by BDomue @ Van Moll Brewpub. Hazy reddish color, small off-white head. Aroma is malts, hops, resin, cognac. Taste malts, hops, cognac, sweetish, sticky resin and bitter. Medium body, soft carbonation. Quite decent, but hoppy beers barrel aged? Hmm not a fan.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop Canterbury and drunk at home. Well thisโ€™ll be interesting. Clear deep amber colour lasting off white head. Some sweetness on the aroma. The good news is that it isnโ€™t just wood and booze. Itโ€™s almost like a hoppy armagnac. Sweetish in the mouth. Then a level of hoppiness and bitterness. Candied tangerine flavour. So itโ€™s really a hoppy armagnac. I really quite liked it.

Bottle. Amber beer with a reasonable head. The aroma is malty and fortified like, and the flavour is very malty with a sweet sherry feel and some dryness and bitterness. Overall a nice strong IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear amber beer, tidy cream colour head. Palate is smooth, semi dry. Good fine carbonation. Soft creamy malt sweetness. Spicy pine. Resinous crystallised fruits. Soft brandy and a touch of vanilla. Light hop spice. Tangerine marmalade. More crystallised fruits. Intense and rather lovely. Proof again, if it was even needed, that BA hoppy beers can work very well indeed.
