This is a very old recipe from California and the days before refrigeration when the beer was made in wooden kegs and stored underground to keep cool. The yeast was of a virulent type and as the beer kegs were rolled underground, the steam would billow from between the slates.

This is a working mans beer – has a strong alcohol percentage, slightly hopsy with a bitter after-taste.

can at Sanbona reserve (my bottle )...copper ..big bubbly white head ...soft Caramel toffee malts nose ...soft sweet caramel toffee malts ... soft sweet caramel sweet malts ..big juicy toffee rich ..

Can, ginormous thanks Fil for sharing! Hazy amber-golden body, off-white head. Lightly tart caramelly aroma, bit herbal and floral. Somewhat malty, caramelly, but also slightly tart taste. Sadly out of shape.

0,3l on tap @ Saggy Stone Kloof. Pours clear amber with a medium head. Aroma is sweet clean malts. Flavor is sweet fruity malts with some hops. Good.

Fra fat i hotellbaren (Cape Sun Southern Sun), første kveld i Cape Town feb-20: nesten helt klar kobbergylden med fint skum som varer helt ned. Røde bær, urter, einer og barskog. Fin fylde og god, halvtørr bitterhet. Moreish.

Dull amber and hazy. Thin head. Toasty aroma with light caramel character. The taste is thin, lightly fruity. Unfortunately does not follow through on the aroma’s promise.
