Cask at The Anchor, Birmingham. Poured a nice dark brown colour with a reddish hue and a frothy tan head. The aroma is rich fruity and surprisingly alcoholic. The flavour is medium bitter and follows the aroma with some nice smooth liquorice bitterness on the palate. A lovely heart warming beer. Ideal for consumption in front of a lovely open fire in the wintertime.

Cask @ The Haymarket, Edinburgh 050812
Dark ruby brown, thick tan head, some lacing
Aroma of soft roasted malts, dark toffee, caramel malts
Taste of roasted malts, hint of burnt crust, touch of toffee, bit of coffee, some fruity malts in the background
Palate - soft carb. thin to medium body. Finish as main flavour with lingering light burnt roast and hint of coffee
Overall - I thought this was more of a quite dark roast bitter - It’s OK, fairly good beer

On tap @ the Haymarket. Pours a chestnut colour with a decent head. The nose has gentle notes of cherries and cola with a hint of chocolate. The taste is of liquorice, then very dry chocolate. The palate is medium bodied, with a creamy texture and a clean finish. Overall, a very good ale..

Cask at the Lord Aberconway, Nicholson’s, London. Labeled as "XT 8 Dark Roast". Pours clear, red-brown with a tight, tan cap. Toasty malt nose with some burnt milk chocolate. Light sweet flavor with toasty bread and leaves, mild cocoa, some dirt. Light in body with fine, creamy carbonation. Decent bitterness in the finish, with modest burnt earth, mild baking cocoa, mild roast, some burnt sugars and burnt grass. Fine stuff.

Cask, gravity at The Honeypot, Oxford, 03.12.11 when stewarding for Mabel Gubbins anniversary longsword/rapper dancing event This is indeed really quite chocolatey and malty, also very smooth, some light creamy chocolate on the nose. Perhaps served just a tad warm, otherwise it is a decent pint. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.4
