What do you get when you take a big English barley wine and infuse it, or make a cuvée of it, with 10% bourbon barrel aged imperial stout? Well, you get a rustic, punch-packing, bastard of an ale, that’s what. Bring it on!

Not often, but all the time (if that makes sense), breweries do blends, or cuvées of beer. You take two or more varieties of finished beers and blend them to create something new. The classic fifty/fifty where you blend equal parts of bright lager or ale with a stout of some sort is one example of this. We wanted to try that, but naturally, kick it up a notch. Burbon barrel aged imperial stout in an English barley wine was what we came up with. We brought it!

Draft sample @ Haand fest ’16, Drammen. Shared with the Norwegian tasting crew.

Quite decent and easy drinkable bw.
Almost clear amber color with tan head. Nice lacing down the sides of the glass. Ok intensity in the aroma. Medium + body and a soft carbonation. A bit sweet and oily texture. Dried fruits, toffee, mild roast and some spices in the flavor. Well masked alcohol.
[On tap at Crowbar in Oslo, Norway]
