Gravity pour: third of a pint. 9th April 2015, Isle of Man beer festival. Good looking dark brown brew, almost black in fact: on top a full off-white creamy textured head. Not a lot of aroma, some malts maybe. The malts do show heavily in the taste with a semi-sweetness that needs the hops to calm them down (which they do) a bit. Decent and worth trying.

Cask-conditioned at the Black & Gold beer festival, the Gryphon, Bristol 2/9/2012. Near black with a slight tan head. Dark chocolate and black coffee aroma with a touch of berry sweetness. Full bodied mouth feel, with more chocolate and fruit flavours, leading to a soft finish. Good.

Cask, Lion, Liverpool. Red tinged dark brown with a v thin tan head. Dark chocolate malt aroma with a hint of fruit. Ever so slightly on the thin side and not a huge amount in the finish, but these are minor quibbles, as this is certainly not lacking in appeal.

Cask at Banbury Beer Festival 08-05-08 Pours very, dark brown with a thin off white head. deliciously hoppy on the nose and mouth, quite indulgent for a mild, bags of flavour great interplay between the hops and chocolate roasty malts, very good. A7 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.6 Had this again on Cask (Gravity) at Charlbury Beer festival 04-07-09 Pours black with a tiny rim of bubbles at the outset that didn’t hang around for long. Chocolate and malty aroma with fruit. Taste is stunning, great fruitiness, its sweet but it carries this sweetness off very well indeed. I cannot determine what the fruit is that I’m getting but its very nice. Hops, chocolate and good maltiness finish off proceedings, tied for best beer of the day around our table with the Millstone True Grit. A8 A4 F8 P5 Ov16 4.1
