Artifacts Of Sound is the reimagining of a recipe from my previous brewing tenure. With chocolate and toasted walnuts acting as this blend’s muse, I steeped cacao nibs in the mash and infused black walnuts into the boil. After aging the beer in bourbon barrels and blending it with other barrels, more cacao nibs and toasted English walnuts were added. The resulting character of this blend is direct and flavor-forward, with rich notes of chocolate turtles, ripe fig, and wisps of yellow cake saturating the palate.
Blend:
Sharrock (barrel #228) aged 13 months in Wild Turkey barrels
Sharrock (barrel #247) aged 10 months in Pappy Van Winkle barrels
Dauner (barrel #250) aged 7 months in Lucky 7 Cognac barrels
Sharrock (barrel #253) aged 4 months in Bliss barrels and 9 months in Cognac barrels
¼ Bliss Sharrock, ¼ Kazym, ½ Madeira Duke (barrel#254) aged 9 months in Willett Family Reserve barrels
¾ 6-month Cognac Pike, ¼ Duke (barrel #261) aged 26 months in Maderia barrels and 8 months in 18-Year Elijah Craig barrels

Bottle sample at a tasting at troubles' place. Thanks Ariel. Black, opaque. Chocolate, oak, vanilla, nuts, dark fruits, a vinous touch, sweet, a bit of alcohol, full-bodied.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle. Aroma is chocolate forward with lots of bakers chocolate notes. Some lighter roast and graham cracker notes with some toasted bread, caramel and toffee. Medium light walnut notes. Light alcohol and bourbon notes with hints of oak. Pours jet black with a medium small, thick, dark mocha head that recedes quickly to the edges where it lingers for a bit. Flavor is fairly sweet with lots of bakers chocolate notes. Lighter notes of roast, graham cracker, toffee caramel and toasted bread. Moderate bitterness and medium low alcohol notes. Light bourbon and faint oak notes. Moderately strong walnut notes, but well integrated with the malt. Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a really solid stout. Really nice chocolate notes that work well with the walnut notes. Good bourbon notes in the background.

Bottle. Pours opaque black, small tan head, decent lacing. Aroma is a bit muted, notes of bourbon, cocoa, roasted malts, vanilla, charred wood, dates, nuts. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter. Hugely well integrated, clean, nuanced. Full body, creamy mouthfeel.
