A traditional stout brewed with black malt rather than roasted barley. Dark as the night and hugely satisfying with a familiar stout body it is excellent with robust Northumbrian fare including Alnwick Stew and Pan Haggerty. Marketed as Father Ted Stout for St Patrick’s Day when its accompaniments might be Irish Stew, colcannon and Cashel Blue cheese.

Bottle picked up at the brewery. Clear cola colour. Barely a head. Looks dead. Here we fucking go. Some earthy coffee. Wisp of vinegar. Taste is dry and a little acetic. Can’t be bothered going on.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - caramel biscuits and honeycomb. Taste - more of the same bit add smoke and liquorice over molasses. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - nice.
