10 year anniversary beer.

As a boy growing up in small-town Saugatuck, Michigan, Patrizio Paccioretti always dreamt of bigger things and bigger places. Chicago – just across the lake – particularly occupied the boy’s mind. Local girls constantly suggested that he should invite them out for dances at the Big Pavilion, but girls meant nothing to him. His only real interest was intense target practice in the nearby dunes with the huge Colt Peacemaker he had inherited from his ex-cavalry grandad. And he ended up an excellent shot. This bullseye perfection and his Colt were about the only things he brought with him, when he finally moved to Chicago. Everybody took him for an Italian, but in reality his roots were Swiss. But the Italian name and his notoriety with a gun eventually landed him the job as the personal bodyguard for local top mobster Dario Daddano. The sight alone of Patrizio and his Peacemaker arriving in his grand Cadillac V8 would usually do the job – he was very much a man who came with a reputation. In reality however, Patrizio had never shot anything bigger than a rat; maybe it was his Swiss roots that made him want to keep it that way. Patrizio's love for Doppio Malto brews made it an easy choice for him to accept the position as Head of Security, when his boss opened Daddano & Dadolnikov Brewing Co. in 1934. The first, the best and now also the safest craft brewery in Chicago.

Bottle from Hopt. Aroma is sweet darkish barley malt with bourbon barrel, oak, caramel, notes of chocolate, dried fruits, raisins, toffee, some alcohol. Flavour is sweet with a mild pleasant boozy sting from the barrel. Body is full. Bourbon BA Old Ales tend to be hit-or-miss for me, but this one is firmly in the hit category.

Bottle from Deconinck. Batch 1550. Hazy dark brown-blackish, thin, tan head. Aroma of date, candied plum, pear, dark honey, milk chocolate, brandy, red apple, vanilla bean, wet wood. Taste has sweet date, prune & pear in a dark-honeyish, brown-sugary, bit almondy and even toasty malt body with a hint of vanilla. Herbal hops in the finish, lingering dried fruit, some liquorice, wood, and warming bourbon alcohol. Medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Elegant and delicious Ale, bourbon is sitting just perfectly now (no doubt after ageing).

50 cl bottle, batch # 1550. Poured into a Snifter. Dark amber colour with a thin lightly tanned head. Sweet aroma with caramel malts, lots of bourbon barrel, dark overripe fruits, vanilla and booze. Taste is sweet. Full bodied. Slightly drying fruity finish with bourbon barrel and caramel malts. Very rich, lots of bourbon barrel. Maybe even to much.

Bottle, 0.50l, shared with Ales. Aroma of bourbon, toasted malt, caramel and vanilla. Pours cloudy dark brown color with thin creamy tan-like head and fair lacing. Taste starts with sweet caramel and cocoa, following is boozy, dried fruity, woody and earthy, mouthfeel is warm, while finish is light to medium bitter. Full body, syrupy texture and soft carbonation in palate. Certainly a peacemaker...

Tight tan head left a covering on a dark mahogany coloured still body. Milk chocolate, lactose, demerara & dark boozy spirits aroma. Medium bodied, oily, slick & smooth over the palate like velvet (or Castrol GTX!) with sticky finish. Lactose, boozy, berry, fruit juice, brown sugar, wood & whisky tastes with a tangy citrus finish.
