Undated bottle. Pours black, but with some brown highlights. Smell offers a lot of smoked ham, just a touch of stout malt. Chewy caramel taste with more smoke. A slight chile burn. Some more complex spice notes that could be from the rye malt. A bit of lactose seems to show up there. Happy to have finally popped my first To Øl beer.

Bottled. Black colour with a quite pale beige head. Aroma is toffee, some alcohol, sweet malts and mild toasted notes. Flavour is espresso, some slight smoked wet wood, chocolate and mild toffeeish notes. Mellow and not all too much smoke to it actually.

Intense, deep, roasty and smoky, dark malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, peat, leather, Whiskey, some liquorice, additional fruity and nutty hints of blueberry, black cherry and hazelnut, walnut respectively. Taste is roasty, peaty, smoky, slightly chocolately and nutty, dark malty, notes of peat, Whiskey, some dark chocolate, salty liquorice. Oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft palate, lingering, sticky, roasty and peaty finish.

Tap @ Mikkeller Bar Aarhus. Pours oily pitch black, small light brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasty bitter, chocolate, smokey, peaty, strong burned wood. Taste is about the same. Roasty bitter, sweet, roasty, peaty, smokey, burned wood. I don’t think I’ll ever get to like these heavily smoked beers, although this has some qualities I can definitely appreciate. Smoke just puts me off.

A a tasting ,many thanks, almost no head, opaque black color, smoked peaty aroma with dark bread, chocolate and vanila, flavor of dark fruits, charred wood with chocolate and aromatic coffee coming through and some vanila in the back, balanced and quite sour, suprisingly light bodied for the style. very good and complex, nice to sip leisurely.

330 ml bottle. Pours black with a short dark tan head. Aromas of rich roasted malts, licorice, peaty smoke, and something like dark fruity coconut. Rich flavors of same with a bit more smoke and light iodine. Warm. Tasty. Really nicely balanced malts/smoke/ABV. Super stuff.
