Crystal Red is one of our hoppiest one-offs to date, essentially using an India Red Ale base but employing our house saison yeast to yield a layered brew. Fermentation based fruity and spicy notes sit behind a huge hoppy nose in this slightly malty and bitter beer. Columbus, equinox, crystal, and mandarina hops all contribute, and while reasonably balanced the Crystal Red will please IPA fans with its long finish. 6.3%

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Dark amber color, clean, beautiful, with small compact head. Luckily it’s rather dry, but still it has a quite strong caramel presence, and roasted nuts, that don’t blend very well with the resiny hops and the spicy yeast; the final is very resiny.
Good beer overall, but a bit chaotic.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a hazy dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out Belgian yeast, followed by considerable resinous hops and some caramel bready malt. Flavour is very well-balanced, bringing out a good mix o resinous hops and caramel malts, and finishing hoppy and yeasty. The saison yeast is used very well and adds another dimension to this. Really good.

12 oz. sample at the brewery in Portland, Oregon. The pour is a hazed copper brown with a small off white head. The aroma is malt grain along with floral bitterness and a bit of iced tea crystal malt. The taste opens with fresh resin citrus hop, balanced nicely with the iced tea grainy malt. Additional resin hop expresses itself towards the back. The palate is medium bodied with active fine carbonation and a dry bitter mineral finish. Nice and fresh.
