A rich, dark porter brewed with rich roast and caramel flavours from a blend of dark malts. Sometimes called a “Black IPA” or “Cascadian dark” to emphasise the hoppiness that may surprise in such a dark brew. We have turned it on its head and started from the base of a Porter and hopped it up!! Generous amounts of aromatic hops give a big hop taste of citrus and tropical fruit hop flavours to balance the malts.

Gravity cask at the Drayman’s Son, Ely. Dark brown and only slightly translucent. Small cream-coloured head. The sweet liquorice, pine needles and lime notes so prevalent in good BIPAs are accompanied here by a menacing malty note. Slightly burnt, which charcoal edges. Sweet taste with bittersweet piney hop in the finish, but underlying it all is that roasted malt. Exceptional balance, and a great beer.
