This is the 2020 release of our sort-of-flagship Monsters beer: it follows the old US style, a rich body with solid bitterness from the hops (Cascade & Ekuanot).
This small batch of the ABW20 has been mellowing nicely in a whisky cask, and we thought people might appreciate a casual small bottle size, so!

Bottle split at CBJ tasting, thanks to Danny Boyo, 18/10/23. Moderately hazed amber topped with an off white covering. Nose is smoke, medicinal notes, booze, oak, stewed fruits. Taste comprises booze tunes, ripe fruit tang, spice, herb, vinous, campfire, medicinal. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a boozey streak. Poor showing really ... sippable but clunky and disjointed.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Dan. Pours clear amber with a bubbly off-white head. Medium sweet flavour, some brown sugar, a little varnish, toasted wood, earth, aged honey. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, some booze, toasted honey, straw, toasted bread. So so.

Bottle share at CBJ. Thanks to Dan the Man. Hazy amber red beer, small bubbly off pink head. Light and semi dry palate, decent fine carbonation. Gluey ripe red berry fruits. Some caramel malts underneath. Light dry finish. Messy.

Bottle at home. Pours deep ruby, nose is green apple, wood, caramel, fig, taste is sweet, chewy, wood, apple, vinegar. --- Beer merged from original tick of Monsters Series: Whisky Cask American Barleywine (2022) on 23 Dec 2022 at 11:26 - Score: 7

Bottle from Hoptimism hazy deep amber colour with a white head. Aroma and taste are malty and whiskey sweet.
