Royal Standard

Mostly clear, deep copper and light brown coloured body with a nice strong gold and bronze tint with a faint bit of haziness and a thick, three centimetre tall light brown head that stays afloat for a long time. Aroma of pitted fruits, earth, nuts, malt, toast, grain, apples and a small dose of rustic leather notes. Medium-bodied; Strong nutty and earthy flavours show at first with some spices, a bit of grain, but the pitted fruit qualities show strongest, but oddly, there isn't as much sweetness that actually comes through from those fruits. Aftertaste is fairly balanced, and somehow fairly easy-drinking for the ABV here, but the sweetness is noticeable, the malts aren't too pungent and the bitterness is subdued, with the alcohol not so noticeable, which is nice considering the amount and the style. Overall, a pretty nice, but a bit simplistic for the style, while showing some nice notes, pitted fruit and sweetness, but not enough complexity to make this great or to purchase this one outright. Nice to sample as part of the sampler pack! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased as part of the 12-pack Christmas Sampler, from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 12-November-2021 for US$19,99/twelve pack, with a 'best by' date of 31-January-2022 and sampled at my house here in Washington on 21-December-2021.

Bread and caramel nose. Cloudy copper, thin head. Bread, oak, subtle orange bitters, maraschino cherries. Medium body, easy carbonation, warm but unobtrusive. Very nice wee heavy from an American brewery. I can see getting wicked hammered drinking this all night.

12 oz can from 12 Beers of Christmas pack sent by Clown Shoes. Light malty caramel roast under the can tab. A bit of pear under the nose. Head resolves to some sudsy lace. Taste has some nice thick malts with a caramel roast, and some sweetness on my lips. I think this does need more English hops to fill out the bill.

Not dead. Can, 12 Beers of Christmas mix pack, Costco. Copper, hint of haze, head disappears quickly. Nose is caramel, whiskey, hints of fruit (pear perhaps?). Caramel, brown grasses, whiskey-ish, pear or apple. Boozy. Disappointing, but drinkable.

Can. Pours faintly cloudy amber-red, foamy beige head, sweetish caramel-malt whisky aroma, medium carbonation, mildly sweet caramel malt taste with woodsy whiskey flavor, thin body, long woodsy finish. Nice brew.

Light hazy amber body small foamy white head. Toasty bready caramel aroma. Bready toasty earthy caramel flavor. Medium full body moderately low carbonation. 7/4/7/4/15 3.7

From holiday pack watching sports. Orange pour darker hued. Nose is light caramel and dark fruit. Tatss of candied plumbs, caramel, cherry, leather. Medium mouthfeel. Some aweetness.

Leather and some heather. Murky copper pour without much head. Dust and resin. Light sweetness in finish. Some caramel. Can from Christmas case.

Part of a holiday variety pack. can stamped Best by today's date. Aromas are Amber malt, solvents, circus peanuts and a hint of toffee.taste is moderately sweet upfront balanced by carbonation and a little bitterness. Malt comes out a little more but still there's the solvent and something else artificial.
