Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Colin. Pours clear brown-amber with a frothy, light beige head. The nose has some lightly toasted brown bread, pine, orange, berries. Medium sweet flavor with nice toasty-roasty malt character, a bit of burnt pine, oily hops, ripe citrus. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly resinous to finish with subtle char, pine, orange rind. Solid.

Bottle at Leighton’s. It pours deep brown with a small off-white head. The nose is fresh, piney, bitter-sweet, orange sherbet, roasted malts and caramel. The taste is bitter, roasted malts, chocolate, cocoa, zesty citrus, piney varnish, pepper and toast with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty solid black IPA.

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head. The aroma is citrus hop and pine. More hop forward than roast forward, nice smoothness compared to over bitter over roast from regular black ipas.

Many thanks to jsquire for this bottle! Great floral fruity nose with hints of dry malt. The beer starts fresh floral, great dry. Dark roasted malt, fresh citrus hops, pine, nice intense bitter. The aftertaste is intense-floral, fruity, nice roasted-smooth with a nice bitter aftertaste. Great brew!

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of huge grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, chocolate, cocoa, toast, light char, floral, grass, and floral/roasted earthiness. Fantastic aromas with bright citrus/tropical hops and light-moderate roasted malt balance; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, chocolate, cocoa, toast, light char, floral, grass, and floral/roasted earthiness. Good amount of pine/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon/orange zest, pine, chocolate, cocoa, light char, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate roasted malt balance; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately sticky, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome black IPA. All around great complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate roasted malt balance; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle. I was really excited to see this on the shelves today, since White Raja is one of my very favorites. Pour is decent... a dark brown with a fizzy cola head and aromas of pine and resin with a bit of roasty malt. Flavor is a let down, though. The black portion of it is very nicely done. Lots of chocolate/coffee/roast flavors, but the hops is just a bitterness and not much flavor or brightness. This is particularly disappointing because White Raja has such a wonderful pop from the late hop additions, but they get muted here. I’ll have to try a second sixer of this sometime down the road to see if I just have a mediocre batch.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown color with a medium thick khaki head that dissipates slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of piney hops, roast malt and citrus. The finish is moderately bitter with an earthy hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Not bad for the style but that is faint praise indeed. +++ Sampled from a growler this beer poured a black color with a medium sized creamy dark tan head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was roasty and malty with moderate pine and floral hops. The flavor was tangy and roasty with notes of grapefruit, pine, lemon and Windex and faint touches of coffee and anise. Medium length roasty grapefruit and pine finish. Medium body. Decent.
