A Norman-style cidre brut, aged in French oak barrels. Reminiscent of the old days in France, before the great wars, when wine makers of the south shared their used barrels with their northern cousins, the resulting ciders were a little bit rough, unfiltered with a balance of flavors from the fruit, the farm and the barrel. Virtue has recreated this traditional cider by sourcing tart fruit, patiently aging for months in wine barrels, and serving as is, without fine filtration. Lapinette is a window into our past, a very tasty time indeed.

Bottle from Top Hops a few blocks up from Union Sq. Maybe more then a few blocks. Duvel glass at home. Clear, champagne-y yellow gold. Some floaties by the third pour. Iron, very mineral-y apple scent. Yeast, chalk, sharps, wisp of oxidation. Taste is sharp apples/kiwi/green grapes/lemon. Chalk, light green bitterness, light plastic, not much else. Otherwise dry, well carbed & thin. Always well made, but usually falls short on complexity. If this brand was cheaper or partnered with a more established cidery, I'd be less difficult to woo.

Flat and dry never goes well together, unless I guess you love dry white wine. Better than the Michigan brut though. Some apple notes to make it tasty.

750mL bottle, pours a clear dull blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out light sweetness, some champagne effervescence and bone dry apples. Flavour is bone dry, with light champagne, bone dry apples, and light wild yeast. Not the most complex brut, but it's very pleasant.

Sampled on draft this cider poured a pale yellow color with a trace soapy white head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was sourish yet sweet with notes of apple flesh and champagne. The flavor was dryish and sour with champagne and apple flesh notes. Medium length finish. Light body. Ok.

Draft. A light yellow cider. The aroma has notes of apples, while the flavor is a bit acidic with notes of apples and lemons, leading to a dry finish.

On tap at CBC 2016, yellow session. Pours cloudy pale yellow, no head. Mostly apples in aroma and flavor. Sweetish and bit acidic. Too thin for my taste lacking in flavor and aroma.

Draught @ CBC 2015. Pours very tiny hazy greenish golden with no head worth mentioning. Smell is fruity with mixed sweet and sour apples, dry soil, minerals, paper and lemon peal. Taste is sour and fruity. Mouthfeel is crisp, dry, tart and light bodied. Finish is sour with tart apples, hay, dry soil, minerals, paper and lemon peal. Decent cider but a bit too dry, bit too papery and very lacking in fruitiness except tart apples.
