Bottle from The Gull, North Vancouver
Black colour, sparse beige bubbles. Nice aroma, spirit, bourbon, chocolate. Full bodied; chocolate flavour, light hazelnut, moderately sweet, with nice spirit and bourbon; it's smooth and intense, quite well done.

500ml on Alex's deck. Appearance: dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: hm, figs and raisins, but where is a bourbon? Taste: quite sweet, a lot of fruity character and booze. Overall: it's good for a high ABV beer, but it's definitely not the BBA Imperial Stout I would recommend to try to get what BBA IS is.

Bottle. Dark brown. Rich, kinda buttery, lots of bourbon. Seems like too much and it's overwhelming the base. There's still some dark sugar and stickiness but too bourbon for me, and I can go pretty high.

500 ml bottle. Pours back with almost no head. Aromas of alcohol leaning towards Canadian whiskey (almost medicinal), a hint of dark chocolate, and slick roasted malts. Flavors of oily roasted malts, alcoholic chocolate syrup, licorice, molasses, and a bit of coconut. Slick and oily with a high alcohol presence. Not really getting the bourbon and not really getting into this one at all. I don't think whiskey and coconut are a good mix here...

Newer rating. Nose reveals lots of alcohol, some whiskey / bourbon, and bitter molasses. Flavour is quite hot, with lots of bourbon, some smoky whiskey, vanilla, and very subtle coconut that is buried. The roasted almond is very buried and it did not express itself the more I drank this time. Carbonation is oily and on the light side. Strangely, my experience this time wasn't as good. It's a solid BA imperial stout, but doesn't seem to match the first (likely tampered with) bottle. 8 4 8 3 15 3.8/5 Older rating, in which I dropped the bottle the day before and it may have lost carbonation -- this somehow made it a lot better. 500mL bottle, pours black with almost no head. Nose is loaded with bourbon upfront, along with vanilla, and a touch of molasses. Flavour is loaded with rich bourbon, followed by coconut, cocoa nibs, and some vanilla. The roasted almond becomes more noticeable with each sip. The bourbon barrels, while not the highest calibre, impart a wonderfully complex depth and richness, and the coconut rounds off the finish. Carbonation is oily, almost flat. Another fantastic local imperial stout. Wonderful stuff. 8 4 9 4 18 4.3/5
