Barrelholder Series - 2022 Vintage

We brewed our barley wine in Fall 2021 with 100% barley malt grown and malted by Field Five Farms on the Saanich peninsula.

A year in medium-toasted American White Oak barrels have allowed the richness of the Barleywine to mellow and become enmeshed with the unmistakable sweetness of oak resulting in a chorus of flavour that will envelop you in warmth.

Shared at Valhalla tasting. Med-thin bod, light carbo. Med sweet, light soft warmth, light bitter, elegant. Med-light honeyish, toasted, dried fruits. Light caramel. Could deffo use more malt character. Also only hint of wood. Overall works tho, tasty, nice.

Can, huge thanks A.V.! Valhalla tasting. Huge aroma, caramel, orange, fusels, alcohol, bit spicy, dusty, still pleasant even if it's a bit flawed. Creamy, pleasantly caramelly taste, orange, spices, rum raisins, bitterish finish. Yeah, this kinda works!

Amber, hazy, thin head. Strong oak aroma, figgy, peachy, toffeeish barley wine. It's fairly harsh up front, especially in the oak, but also the alcohol kind of clobbers. That fruity depth of barley wine is quite good, though, and helps to mollify the brutality. Like when a melodic breakdown slices through a proper tech death bludgeoning.

473 ml can. Pours a deep mahogany color with no head. Aromas of candi sugar, caramel, rye, oak, and sweet toasted malts. Flavors follow same with sharper rye and oak, plus a bit of alcohol.

473mL can, pours a hazy dark amber with a small beige head. Nose brings out plenty of oak barrels, followed by brown sugar, toffee, and caramel bready malt. Flavour is rich and malty, with plenty of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and oak barrels. There's some hops to balance too, while the oak lends some vanillin character. Excellent.

Poured from 473mL can @ Weathered 2023. Clear amber with small beige head. Mild booze, raisin, oak barrel. This one lacks depth.
