Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Black colour; small head; the can is overflowing. Chocolate aroma, but it's very mild. Good body strength, smooth mouthfeel, it also seems lowly carbonated; moderate sweetness, way less than pastry stouts, a bit more than classic imperial stouts; dark chocolate flavour, cacao, mild bourbon, some hot booze, but not excessive.
Very good.

16oz shared with Alex (thx for the beer, man!) @ home. Appearance: very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: some meaty and American oak notes. Taste: moderately thick and sweet, oaky, with some light roasted malt bitterness. Overall: well, it's ok, but I would prefer this year Boreas over this one.

Pours nice and black. Thin head. The bourbon is assertive, the base malts are pleasant. It's a big dip into the barrels, but this brings layers of vanilla, sugar, and wood that go beyond what prior editions of this beer achieved.

473mL can, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma is full of bourbon barrels, some heat, molasses, and moderate roast. Flavour is full of complex bourbon barrels, molasses, brown sugar, and booze. Integrated well, nicely bourbony and reasonably boozy. Very good.

Poured from the tap. Near black with small beige head. Bourbon and oak forward with mild chocolate. Integration of the bourbon seems a little bit more balanced than last year.

473 ml can. Pours black with a moderate tan head that settles quickly. Aromas of oaky bourbon, postage stamp, sugary dark fruit, anise, and bready malts. Flavors of boozy bourbon, dry dark chocolate, licorice and roasted malts. Boozy finish. Nice, but not as well integrated as previous iterations as booze leads.
