Boreas (2023) was aged in an eclectic variety of fresh Kentucky bourbon barrels. This 11% indulgence is a blend of 6-month (Rod & Hammer) and 18-month (Willet and Buffalo Trace) old imperial stouts. Intoxicating aromas of coffee and dark chocolate guide you into the glass, giving way to a sweet, luscious mouthfeel, with just enough bourbon character to round it all out. The days may be getting colder, and the nights are surely getting longer, but you can always turn to Boreas to keep you warm.

Tasting notes: Toasted oak, cocoa, coffee.

Poured from 473mL can (thanks Peter). Very dark brown with beige head. Creamy vanilla, gentle chocolate, mild bourbon, balanced.

Dark brown, bubbly head. Heavy barrel nose. Same on the palate - a somewhat harsh and unrefined barre note, on a chocolatey but simple base.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Black colour, small head. Full bodied, with little residual sweetness. Dark chocolate, cacao, a touch of bourbon and spirit. Well rounded, and enjoyable.

473mL can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is gentle on the bourbon barrels upfront, with some vanilla and light roast. Flavour has a nice bourbon barrel character, plenty of vanilla, and light roast. There's less depth and complexity than previous Boreas versions—a lack of malt depth. Good barrel character and balanced well, but a bit underwhelming.

473 ml can. Pours a very dark brown with moderate head. Aromas of dusty charred oak, soft bourbon, dark fruit, dry dark chocolate and roasted malts. Flavors follow same with more oak, plus creamy chocolate. Bourbon flavors are subtle but quite nice. Good stuff
