That time of year when the day seems to fade away. Drifting further into the darkness with each passing day. Volume 1 - Foreign Stout - Pours black with licorice, espresso bean, molasses, and black cardamom notes that give way to a feeling of self loathing, burnt opportunities and smoked relationships.

Reading the description on the can put me off as I'm not usually too fond of pronounced Licorice and molasses in beer. But in this case they were used judiciously and aesthetically the beer turns out to be very well-balanced and quite drinkable. Just the right amount of bitter to Sweet to carbonation with hints of all those other qualities. Very nice.

12 oz can. Aroma is roasty, smoky, black coffee, dark bread crust. Pours black with a one finger tan head with good retention and some lace. Taste is moderately bitter, lightly sweet with a light acidity. Really nice beer.

Hindamiseks teen vaid ticki.

Tap at BeerTemple. Almost black with dark beige head. Licorice, light coffee, toffee, dry earthy leaves, soft mineral notes, burnt sugar. Over medium sweet and bitter. Over medium bodied too with initially sweet finish but later some dryness. Solid and true to what it’s supposed to be.
