Keg at the brewery. Mahogany reddy brown coloured pour with a lasting thin light tan head. Aroma is fig pudding fruit cake, burnt nuts, toast, some solvent. Flavour is composed of a big bitter black malt, burnt toast component, then some decent fruit cake, nuts, booze, lingering butter liquorice. Palate is medium full, acrid finish, highish carbonation. Good concept but could have had more sweet / fruit character.

Keg at the brewery, 04/12/15. Dark mahogany brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is airy malt, spice, bitter red berry, cocoa rub. Taste comprises light cocoa powder, biscuit, brown bread, spice, dates, prunes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok.

Daft at the brewery tap. Pours unclear red-brown with a creamy tan head. The nose has toasted grains, dried fruits, flinty minerals. Light sweet flavor with more mineral flint, dry toffee, leathery berries, earthy bitterness. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Dry finish, more minerality, dried berries. So so.

Keg at Anspach & Hobday. It pours near black with a small tan head. The nose is rich, big mince character, spicy, fruit cake, toasty, toasted brown sugars, treacle and festive action. The taste is bitter, rich roast, festive spice, herbal, toasty, charred wood, chewy malt, ash and burnt treacle with a dry, spicy finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Aroma is spot on. Taste is a bit charred and dry though. Not bad.
