(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2016) Black colour with hints of ruby. Frothy beige head. Malty, roasted, slightly fruity nose with coffee, chocolate and red fruit. Malty, roasted, slightly fruity taste with notes of coffee, chocolate, red fruit and sweetish hints of port wine in a finish with a balanced roasty bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Nice one.

Cask at Cambridge Winter Beer Festival, Friday 20th January 2017 in company of FatPhil and Anna Deep chestnut in colour, rich, woody quite rich for the abv, some gritty cocoa, whilst there is a richness it does just lack a certain something. I like Downton and this is another solid beer. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.4

Cask at EBF XVI, 09/11/13. Mid black with a moderate light tan covering that retains well. Nose is light roast, earthy tones, metallic nip, light berry fruits. Taste comprises dark fruits, light roast, cocoa powder, vinous notes. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry finale with mineral bite. Ok stout - wasn’t really finding any port based love in this one!

Cask-conditioned at the Wenlock, London 17/1/2011. Near black with a hint of red and decent, off-white head. Sweet, milk chocolate and caramel aroma with a touch of grassy hop. Flavour was also sweet, with dark fruits, a touch of ash and dry finish. Good.
