A dark ruby coloured and full-bodied winter ale full of rich flavours. Delicately balanced with subtle roasted and chocolate aromas, finished with an exceptionally smooth and enriching aftertaste. 4 out of 5 for bitterness and 3.5 out of 5 for sweetness.

Fra cask på The Spice of Life, Soho: klar rødlig kobber med fint gardinskum som varer. Silkemykt anslag av røde bær, sjokolade og hint av tørkede frukter. Saftig avslutning med fin bitterhet og tydelig mersmak.

Two pints in the Woolpack in Hertford when I had to get out the house and took the family out to lunch. An excellent winter warmer with deep roasted malts and a smooth caramel flavour. The alcohol was evident, but it added to the flavour profile. This was in perfect condition and I am sure that this is helped by the pub being 200 meters from the brewery. Why can't other McMullen beers be as good as this?

Cask at the Britannia (McMullen’s), Marlow. A dark brown beer with a thick off-white head; toffee aroma with a touch of spice; some orangey fruit and treacly malt flavours; and a sweet finish. A nice wintry ale.
