This is our porter, The Favourite, enhanced with a subtle addition of star anise. This addition gives the rich and fruity porter an extra complexity with a gentle hint of liquorice.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 25th August 2015. Black sepia with slowly reducing off white foam. Intense roasty malt aroma. Roasty in-mouth with touches of fruit and liquorice before an intensely rich and bitter finish sets in and lasts. Engaging texture and plenty of body.

Bottle on holiday in Lyme Regis. Mild gusher. Opaque black - brown beer, big fluffy pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, good carbonation. Mellow but tangy dark malts. Licorice. Touches of lactose and coffee. Little dark fruits. Light finish. Not bad, but just another porter.
