In 1938 the brewery was famous for being the first in the world to use Oysters as part of the brewing process. In this new recipe we’ve used a variety of flavoursome malts, including a good dose of oats. Fresh wild Maldon oysters are then added to the boil to add a subtle extra complexity to the taste of this stout. CAMRA Champion Beer of London ‘Stout’ winner & ‘Overall’ runner-up.

Pours a dark brown black colour with a light tan head. Roasted malt and coffee aroma with a subtle metalic tang. Smooth and creamy in the mouth, roasted malt, coffee and bitter chocolate flavours and a dryness in a smooth bitter finish

Keg at Waterloo Tap, 09/12/16. Chocolate aroma, if on the weak side. Pitch black. Good, if not spectacular, beige head. Medium bitter, with a sour edge. Cream, through to a dark chocolate/coffee finish. Subtle. Creamy, velvet mouthfeel. A hint of dryness in the finish. Slips down. Really enjoyed this one.

Bottled 330ml (can’t remember if this is from AbM or brought from London, BB 12/2016)
Opaque brown color, good brownish head. Aroma is toasted and ashy. Light to medium-bodied. Toasted maltyness, dark coffee, bitterness in the finish. Clean roasty, traditional porter. I’ve never found any oyster taste from oyster stouts, same here.

Cask-conditioned on gravity, at Weymouth Octoberfest. Near black in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. Enjoyable stout, with some coffee notes, porridge oat creaminess, vanilla and dark chocolate, before a dryish finish. Excellent.

Bottle at the East Town bottle shop and tap room, Ipswich. Pours almost black with a big frothy beige head. Aroma of milk chocolate, light roasting and nuttiness. Medium sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Towards full bodied, smooth texture, carbonation soft on palate contrasting the lively pour.
