This German-style Altbier is our nod to an old world, old school ale. The word “Alt” is German for "old", and refers to the traditional style of brewing before lager yeast was discovered. Balt is a dark, copper colored brew with a creamy head, a gentle bitterness and a clean, dry finish. Prost, Hon!

Cask at GBBF 2013. It pours murky brown with a minimal beige head. The nose is wood, twig, earth, leather, varnish and burnt caramel. The taste is wood, earth, toasty, bread, varnish and light astringency with a dry, earthy finish. Light-medium body and low carbonation. A bit so-so...

Cask at GBBF. Deep amber-red, lace. Very malty nose, caramel and bread. Bready malt flavor, not much in the way of hops. A bit earthy. Ok but rather boring.

Hazy amber brown color. Faint apricot and apple notes. Malty. Smooth. Rounded. Ok but lacks depth.

Light roast and fruit aroma Cloudy red brown, lighter than a typical Düsseldorf one. Fruity roast, toasted bread, light soot. Yeasty dryness, should mature a tad more? Pleasant and rounded enough though

On tap at Meridian Pint. Pours a clear, mahogany brown with some thin, white head. Nice nose, pitted fruit, raisin, malt, sweet, crackers, brown bread. Flavor is similar, really well balanced, sweet, crackers, malt, toffee, bread crust, some light earthy hops. Medium bodied, dry finish. Very drinkable. Can’t wait to stock up on cans of this. A great fall tailgate beer.
