Cask, Hoylake Lights JDW. Amber looks with a small beige head. Enticing piney hops and orange peel present in the beak. Sweet malts, grapefruit, earth and excellent hoppage unfolded in the flavour. Solid bitterness and quality throughout. Better than any Adnams beer I’ve ever tasted. Great stuff, an oasis in a sea of spoons mediocrity.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol 21/8/2014. Copper in colour with a decent, off-white, head. Big, hoppy aroma of grapefruit and pineapple, with some resin and touch of sweetish malts. Flavour had crisp mlats, much more tropical fruit and ended with a dry kick. Excellent.

Cask at the IKB, Portsmouth, pre hovercraft livener on the Jolly Day to the IOW 24/08/14. Clear chestnut brown with a moderate off white covering that retains well. Nose is pine needles, punchy hop notes, bitter tropicana, spice, orange pith, grapefruit. Taste comprises dankish hops, pine, bitter grapefruit, caramel malt. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close laced with hop bitterness. Solid stuff, one of the best collabs to date for me.

Cask. Pours amber, a bit dark, a small foamy white head. Lots of hops and citrus fruit in the aroma. Fruity taste, medium mouthfeel, lemons, fresh hops, malty hints in the background. Very tasty.

Cask @ JDW Shrewsbury Hotel, Shrewsbury. Pours dark brown with off-white head. Big malts underpinning this with soft dark fruits and pine sweetness, but a bit underwhelming for me.

Hand-pulled pint in my local Wetherspoon pub on 2nd Aug 2014. Pours a dark mahogany with an off-white head, looks and is heavy. Bitter nose and taste from the hop content but there is a huge malt presence too. The malt base forces the hop bitterness to the fore and then takes over mid sip, only to fall away again in the finish. Complicated brew, but it didn’t really do it for me.
