American Amber Ale.

Bottle, batch 348, best before April 2017, drunk 8/31/16. Thanks to Cogo for the bottle.
Strong gushing despite sitting in the fridge for a month....it stirs up chunky proteins, leaving a muddy/murky, mauve-amber color to it. Beige head atop is large, of course, and shows moderate to moderately-strong retention.
Huge, nutty toffee-caramel flavor with hazelnut and black pepper. Strawberry, cherry and light peach esters galore, with just a hint of toastiness behind it and light biscuity malts, as well. A hint of alcohol in there too and it seems that this is not an infection, just a very strong refermentation in the bottle. Must have sat on a very warm shelf. The refermentation has dried out the beer excessively and produced boatloads of ethyl acetate, hence the boatload of esters and phenols.
So it’s not bad, really, other than being bone dry (though that’s kind of nice) and having a touch of alcohol sharpness. Lots of hazelnut, toffee and grainy/biscuity malts. High carbonation, very tight and natural, that’s for sure. Dry, hard, specialty malt-heavy texture.

Bottle, batch 298. Pours hazy dark brown, with a big creamy head. Aroma is citrusy hops with orange peel and grapefruit, as well as smoked malts with bread, caramel, kandi and coffee. Medium body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is mellow citrusy hops, and roasted malts bread, toffee and caramel, as well as some phenolic smoky notes. Balanced grapefruity finish. A nice low ABV amber.

Bottle at home. Pours a clear mahogany color with a beige head. Aroma of fruity hops, pine, leather, roasted malt, oak and forest floor. The flavor has more hops, pine, leather and some forest floor. Caramel in the background. A little dry in the end. Has a slick mouth feel, light body and a medium bitterness. Interesting aroma but the flavor feels a bit one dimensional and hoppy in comparison.
