Sampled from bottle at Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove. The sampler guy said this was the first Sam Adams made with American hops. I find that hard to believe, but then again, maybe not. The little sample looks nice, close to a brown malt color, with a thin tan head. Smell has some decent northwestern hops, nothing over the top. Taste is good. Honey roast malts, and a decent hop balance that does tilt to the American style. Certainly got my vote over the Pils.

Wow, ipa. This was a very dry beer. Light brown color, with considerable malt, almost like an Oktoberfest, which must be from the German style malt. A solid beer, but not much of an ipa.
