Bottle pour with membership group. Hazy, maple syrup brown, thin cap of head with good retention and trace lacing. Aroma is strong tart/sour fruit over caramel and lighter vanilla. Taste is strong lightly tart fruit over caramel and vanilla. A bit thin and frothy. Too tart/sour for me--not what I'm looking for in a barleywine.

500mL bottle, #246/680, 11/28/2023, drunk 1/11/2025.
Clear currant-tinged ruby with a gigantic, currant-tinted dark beige head that is very rocky and well-retained.
Wow if I didn't know any better I'd guess Brett, but I guess that's just the currant skin. That's crazy similar to Brett though. Vanilla on the very end. You know, I could be proven wrong, but this doesn't SMELL sugary...certainly not boozey. Pleasant, fruity, clean.
Acidity! Wow! And attenuation! What happened here?? Where is the viciously sweet non-BA Barreled Souls we all know and love? Anyways, this is done pretty well and really it's just a product of attenuation and balancing acidity. Still far from dry, but the adjuncts are tastful, balanced and the vanilla isn't dominant. No alcohol noted.

500 ml. #246/680. Aroma has blackcurrant and raisins. Flavor follows with very weak vanilla. Toffee and notes of yeast. Not sticky or overly sweet. The current provides some bitterness. No sugar. Pretty good!
11/28/23 246/680 aroma is currant, vanilla. Balanced, not overly sweet, the fruit adds a nice bitterness. Well done.
