Bottle: Poured a copper color ale with a medium size foamy head with limited retention and not much lacing. Aroma of butterscotch notes with light smoked notes and some residual sugar notes. Taste is a mix between some brown sugar with some butterscotch notes with some light woody and smoke notes. Body is light with OK carbonation. This starting point is interesting but ultimately this is lacking complexity.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a clear dark amber with a small off white head that is gone almost immediately. Nose is toffee, wood, cherry and raisins with only a hint of smoke. Taste is sweet caramel and dried fruit with the smoke more in evidence but still quite faint and maple appearing in the middle. Mouth is medium oily with quite soft carbonation. Just OK.

Bottle from The Wine Cellar, Sanderstead. It pours clear deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is sweet, toasty, candy, smoke, earth, beef jerky and dried fruits. The taste is toasty, caramel, earth, candy, cola, mild smoke and kind of meatiness with a sweetish finish. Medium body and fairly harsh, prickly carbonation. A bit sweet and lacking a bit of punch. So-so.

Bright clear deep amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is smooth and airy with light fine carbonation. Smooth light airy malt cream. Maybe a touch of fruity maple. Smoke? Not really anything here. Smooth finish. Inoffensive but lacking any sort of boldness in the flavour. Tastes like someone made a decent beer and watered it down to death.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - deep amber going into chestnut. Lovely frothy white head. Nose - ginger cake with a hint of smoke. Taste - caramel with more ginger and some sweet spices. More smoky toffee. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a relatively fresh finish considering the style. Overall -

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours a clear chestnut brown, no head. Aromas are super sweet and smoke, light butterscotch. Taste brings the maple syrup, at the back end. Light smoke taste, but if I want a smokey beer in future, this wonβt be it.
