330ml bottle. Dark brown colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Slightly grainy, minimally spicy, dark malty aroma, unusual yeasty touch has a peppercress note. Taste is minimally roasty dark malty, subtle sweetness, a cautious touch of chocolate, again this nice, unusual yeasty touch of peppercress; dry overall, dry finish. Noteworthy somehow.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours dark brown, no head. Caramel and toffee aromas. Sweet taste, light liquorice, perhaps smoke. Thin body, sweet finish. ok.

330ml bottle at home. Heard stories that Rebel beers tend to be a bit flat, and this is about as flat as it gets. Hugely disappointing in that respect. Pours tar black with a big roasted malt character, some chocolate and a little coal dust. No doubt with some carbonation this beer could live up to its potential but even then this perhaps has too much roasted elements for my tastes.

Bottle drank on hols in St Ives. Opaque dark brown beer. Palate is light and semi dry. Tangy malts with a modest dark character. Tangy ripe orange. A little licorice - aniseed. Light dry finish. Interesting and tasty if a bit dry. Also starting to notice a characteristic tang on Rebel beers.

Bottled. Near black with a slight, off-white head and moderate carbonation. Roasty malts, some dark chocolate and a gentle finish. Ok.

Bottle from Craft Beer Rising. It pours very dark brown with a medium beige head. The nose is earth, toast, coffee grinds and cocoa. The taste is earth, toast, bitter chocolate, coffee, light soy sauce and burnt notes with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Fairly straight-forward and unexciting schwartzbier.
