Pitch black coloured body with a thinnish light-brown head - looks pretty sinister! Aroma of roasted malt, raisins, pit fruit, smoke, meat and a bit of mushrooms. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt flavours up front with a deep raisiny and sweet finish and some malt and metal finishing it out. Aftertaste shows a lot of roasty and almost smokey flavours with some nice sweetness at the end, in addition to a little vanilla and oak. Overall, not a bad beer- good to sample, and showing some moderate complexity. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased over a year ago on 25-March-2008 at Goebel Liquor in Wichita, Kansas, sampled at home in Washington on 22-May-2009.

12 oz. bottle from my friend Connor. Pour is deep brown, almost black with a nice khaki head. Very nice looking in the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, a bit of hop. Taste features the roasted malt initially, with a snappy hop bitterness to the finish. Some smokiness comes through in the head as well. A touch on the dry side, a little thin on the palate. This was very drinkable.

Reminds me quite a bit of Four Finger Stout, but a little less body and character. Pours a very dark brown, small but tight layer of khaki foam. Aroma is mostly roasty, touches of chocolate and molasses. Flavor much the same, soft carbonation, near velvety mouthfeel, slightly astringent finish with plenty of roast.
