Location: Draft at Hay Merchant, 2/17/14
Aroma: The nose is spice/rye malts, caramel, toffee, some booze, and a little fruit
Appearance: It pours a darker brown color with a small beige head and average lace
Flavor: It has a spicy malty flavor, with a light sweetness and a light bitterness to it
Palate: It has a medium-full body, soft carbonation, and a sticky/spicy finish
Overall Impression: Not bad, but I wanted a better beer from a collaboration of these two breweries. The components you would expect from it were present, but the combination only worked okay for me.

Tap @ Black Bottle Fort Collins. Pours a reddish brown appearance with a light brown head. Holy shit, that aroma is crazy. Very spicy peppery, big cedar caramel, toffee aroma. Creamy caramel, chocolate, turtle candy, spicy cedar, a bit citrusy fruity flavor. I need to get more! Fuck yeah.

On tap at Barley Wine Fest at Toronado. Pours a clear amber with a taupe head. Lots of cinder block, tree sap, tobacco on the aroma. Taste of massive cinder box. A little out of balance, with lots of sweetness playing nicely in an attempt to counterbalance.

A reddish brown barley wine with a thick creamy brown head. In aroma, loads of cedar wood and black pepper, vinous malt and treacle, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet vinous malt with black pepper notes, floral hops, cedar wood, loads of warming alcohol, very good. On tap at Cigar City, Dec. 9 2012.

Draft @ Cervezas. Pours clear dark reddish brown color with tan head. Strong cedar arlma with toffee and caramel with some rye and bread dough. Spicy and peppery cedar and rye flavors with sweet caramel, dark fruits and dough. Medium to full body with soft carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. The cedar and rye definitely make.this beer interesting.

16oz on tap at Falling Rock. Pours a deep mahogany amber with some creamy, off white head. Doesn’t smell like a whole lot, green leafy veg, caramel, malt. Flavor is better, sweet, a little astringent, medicinal. Full, sticky and astringent finish. I guess I missed the concept. Looks, smells and tastes like a bad ryewine.

On tap at Star Bar, that’s right suck-a!!! The tap pour looks to have a clear copper body supporting a tan head of foam. The mild aroma offers up brown sugar, molasses, sugar muted spicy cedar and some ripe plum like esteriness. The taste is thick slick sweet malts mixing with brown sugar and molasses covered sticky cedar spiciness. These notes seem to flow into drippy ripe plums and dates. This is a pleasing balanced brew.
