“Camden vs Italy is our collective interpretation of a German Märzen which is a dark style of lager. We stepped it up a few notches by a slight addition of black malt to deepen the colour and give a subtle tinge of roast, and then supercharged the bitterness by way of a menagerie of hops from Germany and NZ to hit 45IBU. The result of all of this is a hoppy red lager with a long, dry bitterness – perfect for a cool autumn day.” Alex Troncoso, Head Brewer.

Keg at the Euston Tap, 30/10/13. Dark amber/light brown with a good sized slightly off white cap. Nose is bready malts, cereals, fresh, clean, grain, bread dough, fruits. Taste comprises bready malts, cinnabon rolls, dark fruits, cake mix, raisens, light spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation with a managable level of prickle, clean and crisp in the execution. A very decent take on a marzen!

Frisch herb malziger Antrunk. Im Mittelteil deutlich herber, die Malzigkeit steigt weniger stark. Rund, süffig, die späte Hopfigkeit gefällt. 9/10/8/9//8

[10/19/13] Draught at Eurhop Beer Festival 2013 in Rome. Dark amber color. Aroma of malt, caramel and mild hoppiness. Flavor has some sweetish malt, caramel notes, light toastiness and a decent hoppiness a bit citric, with mild bitterness. Medium-bodied.

On tap at Euston Tap. Reddish brown thin off white head. Malty marzen aroma. A little thin in the mouth. It’s ok. Some ok malts. But too hoppy on the finish and doesn’t quite have the mouthfeel. Fine. Relatively true to style but way too hoppy on the finish.

330ml bottle from Camden Brewery. My first ever Märzen (I think) and very tasty it is too. There’s an earthiness to the hops that lends an autumnal warmth, and a refreshing layer of malts that gives it real flavour. Another great beer from Camden.
