Cask at the Great British Beer Festival 2017, day one - London. Pours clear reddish brown with a foamy, tan head. The aroma holds light chocolate cake, mellow roast, dried berries. Light sweet flavour with a bit of brown bread, subtle astringency, ashy roast. Light bodied with fine carbonation; so so condition. Dry finish, some bitter chocolate, more ash. So so overall.

Cask at GBBF. It pours deep brown with a small bubbly white head. The aroma is toasty, bitter - sweet, sticky, plastic, liquorice, unami, tar and treacle. The taste is drying, bitter, earthy, charred wood, ashy, charred, tar, burnt cake, fruit tang, spice with a drying finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Pretty odd and chewy. Doesn’t work for me.
