An expression of the beer we brew, the barrels we hand-select, and the time in which we patiently age, this is our non-adjunct blend of Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. Luxuriously decadent, yet refined and thoughtful, we pursue what this style was and is by sharing with you our purest blend of beer, from barrel with time.
In 2020, when we first released this limited expression of BBT, we noted in the release email that we hoped to have it once again in 2022. Fast forward to now, and 2 years of filling Rye barrels and extensive blending sessions, we are excited to once again release Rye BBT to you!
For Rye Beer : Barrel : Time 2022 we finalized a blend which consisted of 2 different recipes, brewed 3 different times and then finished in 3 different barrels for 18 to 42 months. The younger portion represents threads which were brewed right around the 2020 release in plan to become part of this 2022 blend. The much older threads consist of the exact same brew/barrels from the 2020 release, barrels which we held back and allowed an extended aging. The result of this layering focuses this blend more in line with how we blend our BBT releases, with a showcase of our production over time, layering in age and youth in a way that can only come from time spent in barrel.
Recipes and Blend:
-Derivation Blend #3 recipe aged in Willett 5 year Rye Barrels since 7/23/18
-Vibes recipe aged in Willett 4 year Rye Barrels since 7/2/20
-Vibes recipe aged in StilL 630 Rye Barrels since 7/28/20
The Willett barrels, a continual favorite of mine, bring our "house" Side Project character to these recipes. Willett barrels and our Side Project stouts just plain work - in my opinion! Where the younger StilL 630 barrels leave a pronounced barrel character and youth which will promote this beer's ability to age, much like the very young barrels used in Derivation Blend #3. These are my two favorite rye barrels we use and I believe that they compliment our brewing and recipes better than any other. Rye BBT represents a blend of our very best from these barrels...
I hope that you enjoy this blend once again as we very much enjoyed blending this for you. I love how a simple, subtle change, like rye barrels instead of bourbon barrels, creates a whole new experience, one that is unique enough to be labeled as its own beer.

Pours pitch black with a small head. Aroma: plenty of bourbon barrels, chocolate and molasses. Taste: heavy bourbon barrels, rich dark chocolate and molasses. Medium sweetness.
Next one, please!

Pours black, no head. Scent is fairly light, roasty, mild bourbon. Taste is sharp, roasty, lighter sweetness than the regular BBT. Fairly boozy, medium high carbo. Pretty hot on the alcohol.
Fairly thick, boozy, malty. Bourbon, rye, chocolate, molasses, some charred oak. Rich, smooth, excellent. Cheers to me!

old review from notes. I liked this a lot . Alcohol in the aroma and on the palate. Heavy, low carbonation Sweet, some barrel character with dryness in the finish.

On tap at The Cellar. Pours black with small tan head leaving legs. The aroma is strong wood, rye, chocolate, licorice, dark fruit. Slick body, similar flavors to nose, so much chocolate, roast, nice sweetness, enjoyed this.

750ml bottle. Intense barrel notes, some stingy rye, bitter hoppiness, chocolate, molasses, roastiness and cocoa. Quite dry and stingy compared to BBT 2022, surprisingly different. Heavy and complex barrel awesomeness.

Bottle shared by Brian, thanks! Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges quickly. Aroma has a nice rye whiskey note with strong dark grains with a light chocolate and roast backing. Flavor has a nice bitter chocolate and whiskey with roasted malts and a good amount of dark grains supporting.
Placeholder done! I'm at Art D. And Claire B. 's! Wooh! Slightly smokey at first, mad chocolate vibes, spiced chocolate heaven.
