Bottle, 330ml. Shared at The Ale House, Chelmsford. Historic rating. Poured black with a small beige head. Lovely aroma, roasted malt, chocolate, sweet cherry gateaux notes. Medium plus sweetness, light bitterness. Medium body, oily slick texture, soft carbonation. Was enjoyable.

(Bottle) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark chocolate, sweet liquorice, coffee and hints of dark cherries. Malty, fruity taste with dark chocolate, dried fruit, prunes, figs, sweet liquorice, hints of sour cherries and a balanced roasty bitterness. Almost full body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well made with a slightly fruity character. Nice one.

Bottle. It pours a creamy dark tan head of fingerthick size over a really dark brown body. The aroma is roasted and rather coffee--ish. Some dark dried fruits and licorice. It’s full-bodied and silky on the palate, with a faint warming touch. There’s dark dried fruits, guess the cherries play a part here, heavy dark coffee, some licorice and a touch of hoppy bitterness in the flavor. Lasting roasted finish with a good dash of coffee. Pretty lovely this one, tasteful and something else. 140808
