330ml bottle from Ales by Mail

BB 01-02-15 - Pours pitch black with a smooth brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, tartish cherries, hints of dark chocolate and spices. Taste is smooth, slightly roasty and malty with hints of tartish cherries and chocolate. Finish is warming, slightly roasty and tarty with notes of cherries and wood. A bit strange, not very balanced.

Bottled 330ml ABM. Pitch black color, small brown head. Roasted, sweetish chocolaty aroma. Full-bodied. Sweetish, toasted but not roasted. Almond, chocolate, light veggie (coffee bean) notes lurking. Rounded palate. Maybe a bit simple for this ABV.

Opaque dark brown beer with a small tan head. Palate is smooth and slightly dry. Fine carbonation. Mild minerals. Smooth dark malt with light touches of roast and bubblegum ester. Light cherry. Light dry finish with more bubblegum ester. Not really getting the Black Forest vibe, just an decent cherry stout.

My German grandmother made black forest cake for me when I was a kid, and the aroma of this beer brought back memories. Taste is smooth, rich, roasty and chocolatey. Nice one.
