Cask at the Old Red Cow, London. Pours clear, red-brown with a tight, beige cream head. Good roasted malts on the nose, nips of coffee and burnt pine. Light sweet flavor with creamy chocolate, earthy, gritty bitterness, steong roast, bittersweet baking cocoa, some juicy pine. Light bodied with fine, velvety carbonation. Further dirty earth, pine and burnt malts to finish, some more bitter cocoa. Decent.

Old Fountain. Clear dark red - brown beer. Little off white head. Surprisingly rich malt with definite coffee. Okay hops - bitter and mild citric. Semi dry finish with a trace of fruits. Juicy fruit bitter ale!

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol. Near black with a slight, off-white head. Tropical fruit and floral hop aroma with a touch of roastiness. Flavour had a touch of caramel, more tropical fruit and a dry finish. Very good.

Cask at the Hope ’The Final Countdown’ Beer Fest. It pours very dark brown, with a medium beige head. The nose is roasted malt, treacle, caramel, dark fruit, charcoal, leather and bacon frazzles. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, earth, citrus peel, grapefruit, slight acidity and coffee, with a bitter finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Punches above its weight. Balance is spot on. Great stuff.
