Chocolate Chipotle Stout. DRINK THE REVOLUTION! First brewed in 2012, Cocoa Fuego is a classic stout with a revolutionary twist: Chipotle Peppers! It is jet black in color with a tan, rocky head, and full-bodied with a smooth yet prickly mouthfeel. Its lightly sweet, malty flavor is accented by strong notes of roasted malts, chocolate, and espresso, that balance a spicy chipotle pepper bite and moderately strong 7.5% abv. A new movement in flavor is rising – drink the revolution!

Rich deep brown coloured body with a slight cola coloured glow at the bottom and a thinnish, half a centimetre tall rich brown head. Aroma of milk, chiles, chocolate, roasted malt, earth, alcohol, mushrooms, soy sauce and a hint of plums. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt kick at first with a touch of noticeable heat from the jalepenos and a very meaty, earthy taste soon afterwards with the chocolate and peppers battling it out. Aftertaste shows a more balanced flavour of sweetness from the chocolate, heat from the jalepenos, roastiness from the malt and a good balanced earthiness to mellow them all out. Overall, an interesting beer that is fairly well balanced through the nuances and turns out to be a good beer, especially for the style, which seems to have something askew in each variant. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Crystal City Wine Shop in Arlington (12th Street Location), literally under my place in Washington on 05-March-2014 for US$2,29 sampled at home here upstairs on 03-October-2014.

On tap at the bocktown. Big black no head with slight choco aroma. Fairly mild from the start. No ill impy BS here. Slight black coffee effects tho. Barely any co2 here. Decent stout experiences. Like able. Finishes with old roasted wet campfire wood.

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip. Pours dark brownish black with a finger of light tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, roast. Tastes of dark chocolate, roast, light pepper heat. Light lingering heat on the tongue. Medium body with a slightly syrupy finish. Solid, but their 2012 H.E.R.O. was better.

Chocolate and cola nose, raisins present. Opaque mahogany, thin tan head. Cola flavor, generally dry, but there’s a weird cane sugar sweetness at midpalate. Peppery heat on the back end. Subtle creamed leather notes are detected as well. I love the pepper, but the base beer is somewhat lacking. It didn’t deliver on the cocoa, but has some nice surprises.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small soapy brown head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was faint with a malty note, hot peppers and a bit of chocolate. The flavor was malty cocoa and hot peppers. Long hot pepper finish. Medium body. Disappointing.

12oz bottle pours a very muddy, dark brown with some thin, white head. Nose is heavy with cocoa nibs, hersheys syrup, some raisin, malt, a little bit of coffee grounds, some black peppercorn. Flavor is similar, an odd minerality at the front, pencil lead, raisin, dirt, some orange, some malt, a little dried cranberry, coffee. The chipotle really comes through in the end, some warming heat throughout the palate. For me, it goes a bit past typical chipotle levels and heads towards habanero heat. Not oppresive, but certainly present.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run. Pours a dark brown color with a thin fizzy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of cocoa, chocolate, mild roast, nuts, burnt coffee, and a really nasty, dirty note, like ripe garbage. It’s mild, but it’s offensive. The taste is burnt coffee, roast, nuts, chocolate, popcorn. Thin-medium bodied, harsh lingering roast. This stuff is awful.
