Smoky Tea + Bruléed Sugar

A beautiful black stout with an enormous amount of smoked malt to produce a delicious flavour reminiscent of Lapsang Souchong tea. A staggeringly smooth and smokey sweetness radiates through the beer, evocative of being warmed around the campfire on an autumnal evening. The malt is smoked over open beech log fires giving a distinctive yet mellow smokey character. We love to drink this beer whilst eating slow-cooked pork or barbecue dishes, where the smokey flavours play alongside each other and the body of the beer matches nicely to the rich meat. Or, for something more unusual, try it alongside a creme brulee where it will be a winning partner to the burnt sugar.

Cask handpump at The Grapes, Oxford, Sunday 15th December 2013 Pours dark brown with a reddy glint. Very nice stout with a roasty, smokey nice bitterness but a light velvety dark sugar sweetness also. Not sure I can particularly get the tea but don’t know anything about this beer i.e. whether there is actually tea in it or not, anyhow this is bloody good. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.7

På fat. Smak och doft av choklad, laktris, rök, aska och rostade toner. Tydlig beska med toner av pepparoch bitter choklad. Lätt kropp, lagom sötma och mild fruktighet.

Draught at Söder om Småland, Malmö
Black color with medium sized beige head. Light aroma of roasted malt. The mouthfeel is very dry, it has a strong flavor of roasted malt, a bit ashy, with strong bitterness, pungent hops, resiny. At times a vague smoke appears.
Halfway between a Stout and a Black IPA, hoppier than the first, leaner than the latter.

Bottle at chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013 - London. Pours brown with a moderate, beige froth crown. Nice dry smoke aroma, some mellow cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavor with mild smoked malts, toasty bread, earth, cocoa. Light to medium bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Somewhat dry on the finish with further smoke and cocoa. Tasty beer and well balanced.

Opaque dark brown beer, little pale tan head. Palate is softish but with minerally carbonation. Mellow dark malt. Trace of something fruity. Mellow smoke. Finishes semi dry. All comes together reasonably well. The light fruit makes it.

750ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average to huge, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Salty, smoky, roasty dark malty aroma. Taste is initially smoky, salty, dark malty with subtle sweetness, later with more dry and roasty notes, in the finish minimally chalky with hints of burnt coffee, dark chocolate with ultimate cocoa percentage, some grassy hop.
