We could tell you that our new ale has a deep amber colour, a light hoppy aroma and a rich and rounded malty taste balanced by subtle hoppiness, to give a supremely clean, smooth and refreshing ale. But there's no need really. Suffice to say that we think we've created a modern classic here and we're pretty confident that you'll agree.

Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival. KEGS. Cask. Clear gold - amber beer, few pale cream colour bubbles not being a head. Palate is light, semi dry and mildly crisp. Semi sweet pale malts. Whisper of sulphur. Mild dried fruits and citrus. Little bitter floralness. Smooth semi dry finish brings a trace of hop spice. Okay.

Half, 4.1 % abv, gravicask from the stage bar at St Albans Beer Festival. Unclear amber-brown body. Fragile lacing from a diminishing whitehead. Smell of grainy malts and perfumed hops. Malt-fruity flavours, rather jam-like. Leafy hops to the ending. Smooth on the swallow. Thin to medium bodied. Just alright (St Albans 25.09.2014).

From the brewer’s own stand at St Albans market. Deep bronze with a negligible head and a light fizz. Decently rich and resinous in the mouth. The flavours are very traditional English, with earth and twigs and bread. Long lasting bitter finish. Just as the name implies, this is beer as it used to be before those darn Yankees invented all those thar aroma hops and late hopping. It also reminds you why we were so eager to adopt American-style beers...
