Bottle @ home, courtesy of bnielsen13. Thanks Brad! Deep reddish brown appearance wit ha big tan head. Toasty malty, mild caramel, toffee, straw, hay, thick noble hoppy aroma that’s spectacular. Soft mouth feel. Nutty, toasty, pale malty, mild caramel/toffee, hay, straw, awesome noble hoppy flavor with moderate malty sweetness on the finish. This shit is phenomenal! Excellent, just excellent.

12 oz. bottle, $1.50 @ Woodman’s. Big sweet malty smell with a hint of yeast. Deep brown body under a foamy white head. Taste has lots of deep nut brown malts. But I’m kind of underwhelmed by a slightly thin and watery mouthfeel. No stickiness left on my lip. No yeast in the taste (and no dregs in the bottle). Good, not exceptional.

12 ounce bottle courtesy of bertram. Thanks! 3700th rating. Woot! Pours a clear brownish red color with a creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, toasted malts, banana and a faint bit of chocolate. The taste is toasted malts, banana, cherries, pineapple, grapes, plum, caramel and just the faintest touch of burnt sugar. Medium bodied and quite creamy in texture. Very nice... these guys sure know how to make a lager.

Bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Deep copper-red body, thin ring of beige carbonation. Herbal nose with caramel and toast. Same body, with musty caramel, earthy hops, and hints of dark fruit. Thin, watery, and uninteresting.

12 oz bottle at Taylor’s in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pour is clear light brown, maybe a hint of ruby. Aroma is mildly sweet malt, perhaps a touch of fruit (apple?) sweetness, straw and a whisper of roast. Fresh, though somewhat subdued nose (bang on for the style). Taste had more of the light roasted maltiness, along with the sweetness finishing with a bit of the straw. As with the nose, clean, well crafted, but a touch dull. Palate is thin to medium bodied, nice active carbonation and a clean crisp finish. Overall, nice enough beer.

Pours a nice chocolate-brown color with mid-sized, creamy head that dissipates rather rapidly. Some caramel and nut flavors present. Not a bad beer, but not one of New Glarus’ best.

Bottles courtesy of nuplastikk, thanks! Deep amber color, tiny beige head. Aroma of burnt caramel. Taste is slightly salty, bittersweet, very malty. Not bad.

Bottle at Bodega in La Crosse. Pours brown with amber highlights and a medium thick and fluffy off-white head that dissipates steadily. The aroma is chocolate and nuts. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, chocolate and fruit. The finish is malty with sweet chocolate aftertaste. Above average overall.

12oz bottle. Thick orange hued brown. Steady, thick, soapy head. Highly appropriate deep dark malt aroma. New Glarus really nails it with this one. Mellow, creamy mouthfeel. Incredibly fresh, with no alcohol burn, off flavors, or harshness to speak of. Luscious caramel chocolate tones, Mild, faint earthy hop bitterness, just enough to keep give it some balance. Simple, but perfectly executed.
